“In the depths of her interior / Were fears she was inferior / And something even eerier / But no one dared to query her / Superior exterior.” Oh, for the kind of friend I wouldn’t disown to write a line like that!

(Still from “Ah, But Underneath.”)

…should stop taking it so hard when he finds out Sondheim’s already used all his rhymes — RIP “noncommittal”

(Seriously, all you need to do is listen to this song — “Ah, But Underneath” from Follies — to know why I want to be Sondheim when I grow up.)

Going to watch “Funny Thing Happened” because I can’t resist Sondheim (hey, didn’t you miss _Assassins_ last year?) shut up.

(The film version, with most of the same people in attendance as watched the stage play [which I prefer] in Cabot a couple weekends before. And yes, second voice, I did skip Assassins.)

To the tune of “Impossible”, from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, music and lyrics Stephen Sondheim, and inspired of course by having seen Cabot Musical Theater’s production of same the weekend before. Audio is the original Broadway cast recording, with David Burns (Senex) and Brian Davies (Hero).

Also inspired by total disasters on our CS181 programming assignment. I should mention that this assignment involved training an algorithm to recognize musical phrases and correctly identify their composers, hence “lined these notes up pitch by pitch”.

There was more of this written, but it won’t be finished until I figure out a way to adapt, include, or improve upon the line, “The situation’s fraught / Fraughter than I thought”, and that itself is, well, not particularly achievable.
